Associate Professor Meru Sheel

Meru is a vaccinologist and applied epidemiologist at the University of Sydney. She leads the Infectious Diseases, Immunisation and Emergencies (IDIE) group at the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute and the Sydney School of Public Health. Her research interests include emerging and vaccine-preventable diseases and strengthening prevention, detection and response to epidemic-prone diseases. With almost 20 years of global public health experience, Meru has extensive field experience across multiple settings in the Asia-Pacific region. She has responded to international emergencies in Fiji, Dominica, the Rohingya crisis in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, Tonga, and Papua New Guinea. Meru also leads field-based research projects on immunisation program strengthening and vaccine-preventable diseases.
